Welcome, Lily! We are so happy to have you and your family as part of our school.
Theme: On the Go….
Focus: Hot Air Balloons, Airplanes & Jets, Cars
Classical composer: Frederic Chopin (1810-1849) and his “flying fingers”.
.
Spanish: el avión (airplane)

Some children wanted clouds and some wanted a spotless blue sky—wishful thinking! We scooted and drove our mats like cars and pretended our shaky eggs were keys going “jingle, jingle, jingle”.
.
Table Activities: Alphabet magnets, alphabet pegs and foam letters, giant continents floor puzzle, airplane maze
.
Art: Miss Cristina introduced the kids to “gesture drawing” and the children practiced making several gesture drawings of their classmates (and Miss Tracy) holding poses. Then, the students used watercolors to cover the entire paper and used plastic wrap to create texture. This was a fun and very engaging lesson. The drawings/paintings will go in the children’s’ art portfolios.
.
Activity Songs: “Up, Up and Away in My Beautiful Balloon”, “This Little Car”, “Jingle Go the Car Keys”, “My Airplane” by Laurie Berkner
.
Math, Handwriting and Reading: We took a break from groups this week as we get back into the flow of things after a big break. We are planning for specific math and reading activities next week. We have added several sounds to our sound train. It’s growing really long! This week we added the /ar/ sound as in “car” and the /p/ sound for “Pianissimo” and “Presto”.
.
Storybooks: Hot Air Henry; Clorinda Takes Flight; I Love Planes!; Come Fly With Me; Go, Dog, Go; Marvin K. Mooney, Will You Please Go Now!
.
Free-Play Fun: Play-dough, tracks, cars, and trains, hoops, outside play including bubbles
